Tailgate parties – which originated in the United States -, are pre-game events that are held on and around the tailgate of a vehicle. They take place in the parking lots of stadiums and arenas, where people get together to socialize before important matches, often bringing their own food and alcoholic beverages. Barbecues are very common too.
People who attend these parties are said to be ‘tailgating’, and many of them take part even if their vehicles don’t have tailgates.
Before, tailgate parties were mainly seen at football games, but now they have spread to other sporting events such as baseball, soccer, basketball etc. Some people even throw them for weddings and barbecue parties, and, much like Brazilians, for concerts!
Nice, isn’t it?
Would you like to attend one of those parties? If so, where would you most likely tailgate?
